All about Yoga

The practice of yoga has been around for centuries. Yoga means “union” or “to unite”. Yoga is a type of exercise program that can help to achieve balance, flexibility and strength through its many postures and poses. There are various types of yoga including Vinyasa (a series of flowing movements in repetition), Bikram (the room is heated to 105 degrees) and Hatha, focusing on slow, controlled movements and proper breathing techniques. Yoga utilizes your body and mind to create an awareness of strengths and weaknesses, alignment and overall openness. It also can help to develop a long and lean appearance.

Proper Pilates/Yoga Instruction

Due to its popularity, Pilates and yoga classes have been springing up everywhere but that does not mean the instructor has the proper training and background. Some gyms will send their instructors to a seminar or camp for a week. That does not count as suitable training and it could end up causing an injury. Our instructors hold certifications from accredited institutions as well as the experience in practicing and teaching Pilates and/or yoga. Our instructors are able to modify exercises correctly to help new students and prevent them from injury.

Equipment

Pilates can be easily done with a mat; however other tools used in Pilates routines include a ball, exercise bands, barrels, chairs, or a reformer.
